About

The Biomedical Emergency, Acute, and Critical Care Trials and Observational Network (BEACON) is a physician-investigator led consortium in the United States that works together to design and execute clinical research studies.

We specialize in
acute care research

We conduct clinical research studies in the context of unplanned medical care for urgent and emergent problems. Much of our work involves enrolling participants into research studies in the hospital and emergency department settings.

We are eager to collaborate to conduct high quality clinical research studies

We are eager to conduct high quality clinical research studies in collaboration with other investigators, industry partners, and government organizations. We design and execute late phase clinical trials, epidemiological studies, studies of diagnostic tests, mechanistic studies, and derivation and validation studies of predictive tools.

We have the capacity to study a broad array of acute diseases

Disease entities that we commonly study include sepsis, pneumonia, ARDS, trauma, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, shock, respiratory failure, critical illness, and acute infections.

Our network includes clinical and data coordinating centers that are eager to coordinate clinical research studies

A broad array of services is available, including all functions necessary to run FDA-registration trials as well as those needed for successful investigator initiated studies focused on academic output. Coordinating centers at Vanderbilt Health and University of Colorado regularly coordinate BEACON studies.
